Kati Szalai grew up in Bánffyhunyad — often described as the cultural heart of Kalotaszeg — surrounded by a visual language in which embroidery was never merely decorative. It belonged to homes, celebrations and everyday life.

Long before these motifs became part of her collections, they had already become part of her visual memory.

Her work carries a living system of drawing, hand embroidery and inherited knowledge into contemporary form. Each piece preserves the time, rhythm and individual hand of its maker — creating a bridge between memory and the present.
